Flat Bar Elevator Handrails for Commercial Cabs

A flat bar handrail uses a flat metal profile rather than a round tube. The clean, low-profile look works well in modern cabs, and the flat face sits close to the wall so it takes up less space while still giving passengers a secure grip.

At Premier Elevator Cabs, we design and install flat elevator handrails as part of a coordinated elevator cab interior project. Handrails are selected to match the walls, ceiling, and finishes around them, so the rail reads as part of the cab rather than an add-on.

We install handrails only as part of the installation of other elevator interior work, not as a standalone service.

When to Add or Update Flat Elevator Handrails

Handrails give passengers support and also protect the cab walls from carts and daily traffic. You may want to review your elevator handrails when you notice:

  • A cab with no handrail where passengers would benefit from support
  • Worn, loose, or dated rails that no longer match the interior
  • Wall panels taking damage from carts, deliveries, or move-ins
  • A round rail you want to replace with a cleaner flat bar profile
  • A cab renovation where the rest of the interior is being upgraded

Many owners add or update handrails during a broader cab renovation, a tenant improvement, or a building repositioning, when the interior is already being upgraded.

Custom Elevator Handrail Materials and Finishes

We offer a standard line of elevator handrails and also craft custom handrails to complement the rest of your cab interior. Flat bar rails, our Rectangular Bar profile, come in two widths, 3/8″ x 2″ and 3/8″ x 4″, with straight or returned ends. Returned ends are especially useful on side walls next to side-opening doors, where they add safety and a cleaner finish.

Flat elevator handrail materials and finishes may include:

  • Stainless steel, a durable and easy to clean choice for elevator cab handrails
  • Bronze, for a warmer tone that can be oxidized or refinished to a range of finishes
  • Matte black, for a bold, modern contrast against lighter panels
  • A #4 satin or #8 polished finish, depending on the look you want
  • Custom-coordinated finishes matched to the rest of the cab

Handrails and Toerails That Protect Your Cab Walls

Elevators are high-traffic spaces, and wall panels can be damaged by moving tenants, deliveries, and accidental impacts. When handrails are secured through the wall panels and the cab shell, they add a buffer that helps protect the interior walls and reduce the risk of costly damage.

For added protection, toerails mounted near the floor guard the lowest part of the cab against carts, luggage, and equipment, and they are available in any of our handrail styles for a cohesive look.

How Flat Handrail Installation Works

Flat handrail installation is coordinated from design through installation as part of your cab interior. A typical project may include:

  • An initial discussion of your goals
  • Review of cab dimensions and existing conditions
  • Material and finish selection
  • Approval drawings where needed
  • Fabrication of the handrails and any coordinated interior components
  • Installation coordination with your elevator contractor
Pricing

How Much Does Elevator Handrail Installation Cost?

The cost of flat elevator handrail installation depends on the project. Material and finish, the number of cabs, the length and layout of the rail, and the condition of the existing interior all affect pricing.

Because handrails are installed alongside other interior work, cost is usually reviewed as part of the overall cab project rather than as a separate line item.

Since each project is different, we provide pricing after we review your specific cab and requirements rather than quoting a flat figure. Contact us today and get a free consultation.

What to Consider for Your Flat Elevator Handrails

  • Passenger support and how the cab is used
  • Traffic type and volume, including carts and equipment
  • Material, finish, and how it coordinates with the interior
  • Cleaning and maintenance expectations
  • Wall protection along the most exposed runs
  • Added material weight, which we discuss relative to the cab so any change can be reviewed with your elevator contractor
  • Clearances and access to operating hardware, which must stay clear
  • Access and scheduling for installation
  • Applicable code and accessibility requirements
